What is a “professional organizer” anyway?
According to the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO):
“A professional organizer enhances the lives of clients by designing systems and processes using organizing principles and through transferring organizing skills. A professional organizer also educates the public on organizing solutions and the resulting benefits. Professional organizers help individuals and businesses take control of their surroundings, their time, their paper, and their systems for life.”
Do I need to be there while you work?
It is generally most efficient for us to work side-by-side with you. Together we will sort through your belongings to determine which are most important to you, identify your daily habits, and develop an organization system tailored to your needs. Along the way, we'll teach you how to maintain this new system after we're gone, and you'll learn valuable organizing skills to draw on in the future. If, however, your time is limited, there are some tasks that we can perform without you. Overall, we're committed to working with your schedule and at your pace.
How long will this take and how much will it cost?
This depends on your individual needs, your space, and your pace. Our on-site organizing sessions often motivate clients to organize on their own. So, once we begin, there may be tasks that you can perform in-between sessions with us. Most importantly, we will happily work with you to create a personalized package of organizing sessions within your budget and within your schedule.
Will you make me throw my things away?
No, definitely not! We will assist you in exploring what you need and what you don't need, but you decide what to keep and what to discard or give away. We will find the best place in your space for those things you decide to keep.
But I'm really embarrassed to show you my space!
Please don't be! We've seen it all and nothing surprises us. When we enter a space, we see possible solutions, not the mess. Most importantly, our services are judgment-free and 100% confidential. We abide by NAPO's code of ethics. And, please don't straighten-up before we arrive. It's important that we see how you live/work as we develop a new system that will work for you.
Will I have to spend money on new products to get organized?
No. We firmly believe that you don't need to acquire more things to get organized. In fact, accumulating more stuff often simply leads to more clutter. We frequently suggest innovative uses for furniture and containers our clients already have. However, if you do want to purchase new organizing products, we can recommend what to get and where to get it for less, and we can even pick it up for you. And, as a member of NAPO, we get discounts at many stores that we happily pass on to our clients.
